A thrilling encounter between Nice Volleyball and GFC Ajaccio. A match that started poorly for NVB but still managed to win three sets to two.
The first set was very tough for the eaglets. The Ajaccio team, very alert, immediately took the advantage over the Nice team, which struggled to get going. A steadfast Corsican offensive block, almost all balls were countered.
Unfortunately, on the home side, minor errors piled up, allowing the GFCA to widen the gap between the two teams. The third timeout sounded with the score at 10-18. The Corsican team, strong on returns, did not falter this evening and put the eaglets, who lost this first set 18-22 very quickly, in great difficulty.
At the start of the second set, the scenario was different; Nice Volleyball scored the first two points due to opponent errors. NVB managed to shift into second gear. But GFC Ajaccio remained very close (8-6). The Corsican block was not as successful as in the first set and conceded a point to the eaglets. A few small errors on the Corsican side, but Nice found the solution, imposing a much more fluid game. For the opposing team, attacks became increasingly difficult, and it struggled to catch up to the score. They fell behind and were unable to rally.
Despite a difficult start, the offensive block of Ajaccio’s volleyball team managed to come back to the score (21-21). The end of the second period was very close, with both teams neck and neck. A service error for the Corsican club conceded the victory of this set to NVB 25-23.
For this third set, Nice started strong. Ivan Kolev, very strong this evening, gave the spectators a magnificent show. The eaglets, more motivated than ever, soared and scored quickly. The home team stormed the score (8-3). But Ajaccio did not let themselves be lulled into a false sense of security and clawed back points little by little (10-8).
But NVB, very good in this stretch, made no mistakes, and their offensive block allowed them to take the lead. Ajaccio tried once again to catch up, but Nice Volleyball continued their momentum and finished this set 25-20.
This fourth set started strong for GFC Ajaccio (3-0), quickly caught up by NVB, which even took control of the set. But the game was very tight, advantage to one, only to be caught by the other, back and forth.
The Corsican team nevertheless took the lead and distanced the locals by four points (12-16). Nice tried to catch up but still couldn’t close the score gap (19-20). However, the team did not throw in the towel 6 points away from victory. They managed to pull themselves together and regain control.
