Following a call made today by the Federation of Parent Advisory Councils (FCPE) regarding the refusal of certain municipalities to accept all students in school cafeterias (particularly those whose one parent is unemployed), the city of Nice would like to provide the following clarifications:
Despite the fact that school catering is not a mandatory public service, the city of Nice is committed to welcoming all children who wish to join its cafeterias. This reception must be conducted under the best dietary, hygiene, and safety conditions.
The admission conditions for half-boarders are clearly defined. The following children are admitted:
1. Children whose both parents or the responsible parent are working;
2. Children whose both parents or the responsible parent are looking for employment;
3. Children from large families (with 3 or more children);
4. Children living far from school.
The city proactively addresses any situations that arise to favorably respond to parents wishing to register their child as a half-boarder.
Thus, when a catering site becomes too small to accommodate the children, the municipality can undertake renovation work on the establishment’s premises to convert them into dining halls (as was the case in several primary schools this summer).
The city of Nice also wishes to remind that the family quotient, which sets the application of the reduced meal rate, has increased this year from 500 to 600 euros, allowing nearly 1,000 additional families to benefit from it.
