Next February, the French League of Legends championship will once again be held in the capital of the Côte d’Azur.
In 2022, the French League of Legends championship, the largest Francophone esports competition, will set its sights on Nice!
Gamers and twitch enthusiasts in Nice will be delighted, while others may be bewildered.
Indeed, still little known to the general public, Esport is the sport that encompasses professional video game competitions. League of Legends is one of those games where competition is fierce among professional players worldwide.
On February 2nd and 3rd, the 12 biggest French teams (Vitality, Karmine Corp, Misfits Premier, BDS, Gamers Origin, LDLC OL, GameWard, Solary, Mirage Elyandra, and Oplon) will face off virtually in online arenas in front of a very real crowd at the Palais des Congrès Acropolis.
For these two exceptional nights of competition, 10 matches will be offered in total, 5 matches per evening.
It is the first time a city will host the competition twice consecutively, proving the popular and rising success of the LFL (French League of Legends) and Esport.
The director of eSport activities at Webedia and co-producer of the LFL with the game’s publisher, Riot Games, Bertrand Amar, expressed his delight with the competition being held in Nice:
“We are thrilled that it’s Nice, as the destination lends itself so well because, beyond its extremely pleasant setting, the city offers great accessibility and all the facilities to accommodate the public and players.”
Christian Estrosi, mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d’Azur metropolis, also displayed his satisfaction in hosting the event in his city once again:
“For two days, LFL competitors will be competing live from Nice, for this major event, highly anticipated in the esports world. Nice will become the first city to host two consecutive LFL evenings, and I commend the organizers’ choice. This once again demonstrates the allure of Nice and its capacity to host innovative internationally renowned events, as the French League of Legends championship will also be broadcast on Twitch, the largest live video platform. A new testament, if needed, to the dynamic identity of our territory and the avant-garde nature of our smart city where esports competitions have their rightful place. It is an opportunity to attract fans, but also businesses, create jobs, and host training related to the video game and esports industry.”
