The UN Women France committee today awarded the title of “Orange Day Champion 2017” to the city of Nice for its initiatives in fighting violence against women.
Throughout the year, the UN Women France Committee supports initiatives led by UN Women within the framework of the UN’s multi-year campaign “United to End Violence Against Women.”
The Orange Day Champion title, established in 2016, is awarded to actors and entities (local government, state service, company, school, university) that are committed to this cause.
This year, Nice has won this title, thus acknowledging its actions in favor of women’s rights, gender equality, and combatting violence against women.
It was Maty Diouf, Deputy in charge of women’s rights, who received this award from Marlène Schiappa, Secretary of State for Gender Equality.
For Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, “This Orange Day title, awarded by the UN Women France committee, encourages us to go even further in this fight for equality, justice, and freedom.”
