Three times a week, dozens of volunteers gather in strategic locations to pick up cigarette butts and other trash.
“Plogging” is a term that emerged in Sweden in 2016. This neologism is formed from the Swedish term “plocka upp,” meaning “to pick up,” and the term “jogging.” Thus, this practice aims to combine sports with ecological responsibility. Jogging while doing good for the planet! Moreover, this action is carried out collectively, which fosters a certain solidarity among citizens.
The collective “NicePlogging” was created in 2018 by citizens of Nice who felt the need to act for the environment. Even though jogging has since become walking to allow a larger number of people to participate in these plogging sessions, these sessions have proven to be particularly effective.
Making ecology accessible
This is the message conveyed by the NicePlogging association. By working with schools and businesses, this Nice-based association aims to make ecology accessible to all. The idea is that everyone should become an active participant in their environment. Indeed, they must protect and preserve it. In Nice, the recent heatwaves and the pollution peak at the end of August underscored the necessity to act for the climate. Every gesture counts, and NicePlogging confirms this through each of their actions.
