Nicole Fontaine: from the European Parliament to the University of Nice

Latest News

She has just joined the ranks of teacher-researchers after being awarded a Jean Monnet ad personam chair for three years by the European Commission: “We had to prepare a flawless application to obtain it, given that only 16 projects were selected, and among them, only two were for French universities, the other being awarded to the University of Paul Cezanne of Aix-Marseille III,” Nicole Fontaine tells us, who recently met with the press to present her future activities.

Beside her, Albert Marouani did not hide his satisfaction: “This recognition naturally goes to the recipient whose curriculum can only inspire our admiration, but also to our university, which is increasingly establishing itself as a center of excellence.

The presence of Nicole Fontaine among us is not just an honor and a fantastic opportunity for students to benefit from her experience but also a step towards continually improving our international standing, which should position us, in a few years, among the top 100 universities worldwide in the Shanghai ranking.”

And Nicole Fontaine concludes: “I thank Professor Marouani for giving me this opportunity. I am very happy to put my experience at the service of Nice’s students and to be able to share with them my passion for European construction. I spent 23 years of my life in European institutions, and I know how important Europe, in all its forms, will be for the future lives of today’s young people who will be tomorrow’s decision-makers.

I embrace this challenge with this objective in mind and hope that many students will recognize this approach as beneficial to them.”

Who better as a direct witness to the future of Europe than Nicole Fontaine?
