Created in 2001, the “Night at the Theater” festival takes place once again in the seats of the Verdure Theater. From Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 5, the people of Nice will be able to attend free theatrical performances. This event marks the beginning of the Verdure Theater’s summer season, with programming lasting throughout the summer (see the Verdure Theater program for the 2009 summer season).

On Saturday, July 4, starting at 9:30 PM, the audience can watch “The Clan of the Divorced,” a play by Alil Vardar that has already captivated more than 500,000 spectators since 2004. A ninety-minute show that has charmed audiences with its friendly dialogues.

On Sunday, July 5 at 9:30 PM, the Verdure Theater will host one of Moliรจre’s best-known plays on its stage. “Tartuffe” is one of the great classics of Commedia dell’Arte.
Both performances were staged by the troupe Viva la Commedia. For the occasion, they are joined by Firmin, a professional actor who will be the festival’s grand herald. He will announce the performance on both evenings.

Festival Program:

The Clan of the Divorced, Saturday, July 4 at 9:30 PM:
This comedy features three divorced women who decide to share an apartment. Despite having different social statuses and personalities, they support each other through the trials of separation.

Tartuffe, Sunday, July 5 at 9:30 PM:
Orgon, a wealthy bourgeois, has taken Tartuffe into his home. Despite warnings from his children and his young wife Elmire, Tartuffe manipulates him and quickly becomes master of the house.
