The ambitious Bike Plan presented by Christian Estrosi will not have the desired impact without a change in the mentality of citizens who must transform into responsible users, namely motorists when necessary, public transport users when possible, cyclists when opportune, and pedestrians when enjoyable!
The “bicycle revolution” must be implemented not out of obligation but through commitment to the project and participation in its development by “adult” citizens!
Very appropriately, the plan presented includes promotion and “training” initiatives to make cycling appealing, particularly aimed at the younger generation.
โThe Metropolis aims to create excitement around what is the transportation method of tomorrow and to encourage vocations. An objective that relies on and especially involves the youth,โ concluded Christian Estrosi.
For this, fun or sports activities will take place throughout the year, notably including:
โช The Bike Festival in June, featuring a bike exchange, repair and marking workshops, pedestrianization of the Quai des รtats-Unis and part of the Promenade des Anglais on a Sunday;
โช Courses for children throughout the summer in squares in Nice and in public gardens;
โช A bike week during the European Mobility Week in September. The Metropolis will offer bike marking to metropolitan residents to combat bike theft.
โช Educational activities organized for schoolchildren, particularly through the “Know How to Ride a Bike” operation. For the 2020/2021 school year, the youth service will intervene in 12 schools. This initiative will be intensified from the next school year onward.
โช Establishing a partnership with the University of Nice Cรดte d’Azur to promote the practice among students (parking, bike workshops, and getting back on the saddle).
โช Implementing actions (repair workshops, getting back on the saddle) within priority neighborhoods and setting up a circuit within the Moulins neighborhood.
โช As part of the cycling activities, a number of getting back on the saddle workshops aimed at adults were conducted in 2020 and will be replicated in 2021.
โช As part of the launch of the sustainable mobility package, a week of awareness about cycling practices will be organized for municipal and metropolitan staff, with bike repair workshops, beginner and getting back on the saddle workshops, and bike marking stands.
โช Setting up, in partnership with the metropolitan tourist office and the heritage service, 3 new cycling and heritage routes that allow the discovery of the most beautiful places of our commune by bike, mostly on marked routes.
