Latest News

Out of the total six athletes, two athletes from Alpes-Maritimes were present on the various fields of the Paralympic Games today: Christophe Carlier and Élodie Lorandi. Here’s a look at their results.

Para-swimming

Élodie Lorandi, affiliated with Antibes, placed sixth in the final of the 400m freestyle this Thursday afternoon. At 35, the Cannes native could not repeat her 2012 London achievement, where she won gold in the same event. With a time of 4’52″43, she did not match her performance from the morning heats (4’50″42). The race was dominated by Canadian Aurélie Rivard, who won with a time of 4’29″20. Behind her, the American Alexandra Truwit took second place, followed by Hungarian Bianka Pap in third. Despite this disappointment, Élodie Lorandi has one last challenge in mind: the 200m individual medley, scheduled for this Saturday. A final chance to shine before the end of these Games.

Wheelchair Basketball

The French wheelchair basketball team, led by Cagnes-sur-Mer native Christophe Carlier, held their own against the Netherlands in their first classification match at Bercy. Trailing by 11 points at halftime, the French team came within 3 points six minutes before the end. They ultimately had to concede defeat with a score of 72-63. To hope for a 7th place finish, they will need to significantly elevate their level of play as this marks their fifth loss in five games. The outcome will be decided tomorrow against Spain at 1:45 PM.
