The last day of the Nice carnival will be disrupted by the weather this Sunday. The municipality has announced the cancellation of the carnival swim that was supposed to take place on the Opéra beach around noon.
Nice is expected to experience an intense weather episode tonight and this will last until early afternoon. 60 to 80 mm of widespread rain is expected on the coast in the next twelve hours, forcing the city council to cancel the last day of the 2024 carnival. Therefore, the carnival swim and the parade of the “pointus” with the Mouette boatmen will not take place this year. This afternoon, Météo France has placed the Alpes-Maritimes on yellow alert for wave-submersion and rain-flood risks starting from this Sunday midnight.
However, the traditional incineration, which will begin in a few hours, is still going ahead as well as the fireworks that follow.
