Casual runners and seasoned athletes are set to meet starting Sunday, November 20th on the new breakwater at the Port of Monaco. On that day at 2 PM, the starting signal will be given for the sixth “No Finish Line”. The concept is simple: participants either run or walk along a roughly 1,000-meter course for five minutes, an hour, or every day—the track is open 24/7. Therefore, participation is flexible, and both night owls and early risers are welcome.
To join in the festivities, participants will need to pay a registration fee of €10 (€5 for those under 14), and a €10 deposit for an electronic chip provided to runners. To take part in the 24-hour Trophy (from November 26th at 12 PM to November 27th at 12 PM), an event listed in the official off-stadium race calendar of the French Athletics Federation (FFA), the registration fee is €20.
The funds raised will be used to treat sick children. For instance, in 2004, €31,000 were donated to the Cardio-Thoracic Center of Monaco for the care of children needing surgical correction of congenital cardiac malformations. Specifically, two Mauritian girls aged 2 and 3 underwent surgery to correct a blue baby syndrome, and a three-year-old boy from Senegal received a palliative operation for a complex heart disease. Children’s Rights Day
This year, the organizers hope to raise €40,000, which would approximate 40,000 km covered on the Hercule Port breakwater. 2,000 walkers and runners are expected, compared to 1,476 last year. Jean Luc Ettori, the record holder for the number of matches played in Ligue 1 and the sports director of AS Monaco, along with some first team players, will kick off this sixth edition of the No Finish Line. It’s worth mentioning that the No Finish Line coincides with the Monegasque Children’s Day, first inaugurated on November 20, 1999.
If Wednesday, November 23, will be a day dedicated to the children from schools in the Principality and beyond, the highlight of the event will be Saturday, November 26, when the start of the 24-hour Trophy will take place, and numerous musical entertainments will be provided on the new breakwater. An evening show and raffle will conclude the day at the Auditorium Rainier III.
