No Olympic Games for Margot Chevrier

Latest News

Seriously injured since March during the indoor world championships in Glasgow, Margot Chevrier must give up on the Paris 2024 Olympics. A dream that vanishes.

“Four and a half months of perseverance, pain, and doubt, four and a half months of not giving up to defy all possible medical statistics, can be read on the social media of the pole vaulter. Four and a half months that will not be enough and end with a broken heart and a childhood dream gone. The risk is too great for the rest of my career. I’m not far off, but it would cost me too much for the next 10 years.”

Victim of a talus fracture (ankle bone) in March upon landing from a jump during the world championships in Glasgow, Margot Chevrier (24 years old) bids farewell to her Olympic dream. Although initially cleared by the French Athletics Federation, the decision was made to take no risks. The reason: the athlete from Nice had to clear a 4.50 m bar by July 21 to secure her spot. She refrained from attempting this to avoid worsening her injury and jeopardizing her young career. Despite several months of intensive rehabilitation at CERS Capbreton, the bar was too high for the five-time French champion. With a personal best of 4.70M, winning a medal would have been difficult, but the unfulfilled dream of competing in a home Olympics will leave a deep scar.

See you next season and in four years in Los Angeles!
