During the November 11, 2025 ceremony, the city of Nice paid tribute to the soldiers who died for France. A new inscription, “OPEX,” was engraved on the War Memorial of Rauba Capeรน to honor the soldiers from Nice who fell during overseas operations.

This Tuesday morning, the mayor of Nice unveiled the new engraving on the War Memorial, “OPEX” in the presence of the regional prefect, the departmental military delegate, the director of the ONACVG, and veteran associations.

“The City of Nice is committed to remembering those who sacrificed for France and whose names must be honored. I wanted to enrich our War Memorial by having the mention ‘OPEX’ inscribed, in tribute to the soldiers who fell during Overseas Operations. I thank the Regional Prefect, the departmental military delegate, the director of the National Office of Veterans and Victims of War (ONACVG), and the associations that supported our initiative. This effort is part of our ongoing commitment to duty of remembrance,โ€ declared Christian Estrosi.

Classified as a Historical Monument since 2011, the work by Roger Sรฉassal and Alfred Janniot pays tribute to the people of Nice who died during the major conflicts of the 20th century. The new engraving, created using a process respectful of the monument, extends this memory.

The ceremony marking the 107th anniversary of the armistice gathered numerous personalities like Christian Estrosi, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes Laurent Hottiaux, the deputy of the first district of Alpes-Maritimes Eric Ciotti, the senator of Alpes-Maritimes Dominique Estrosi Sassone, the first deputy mayor, Anthony Borrรฉ and patriotic associations around the Rauba Capeรน Monument.
