It’s hard to resist the story of Sarah, a little Jewish girl who was a victim of the Vel’ d’Hiv roundup. We discover her through the investigation by Julia Jarmond, an American journalist who has been living in France for fifteen years and whose marriage is falling apart. Born under very good auspices, “Elle s’appelait Sarah” is adapted from the best-seller by Tatiana de Rosnay, scripted by Serge Joncour and directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner.

With a polished production and served by the delightful Mélusine Mayance, alongside Kristin Scott-Thomas, Niels Arestrup, Michel Duchaussoy, and Gisèle Casadesus, “Elle s’appelait Sarah” is a film of introspection that, based on a tragic historical episode, shifts into the personal lives of the protagonists (Sarah and Julia). Throughout the story, it creates a connection between the two characters who, without knowing each other, gradually identify with one another.
This is the magic of the film, which allows you to partake in the alternation of feelings and the emotion that emanates from it.
