The law aimed at taxing farm seeds will be examined in parliament on November 24.
The New Anti-Capitalist Party is outraged at this attempt by multinationals to prevent farmers from freely re-sowing their own harvest and exchanging their seeds unless they pay royalties. Varietal selection has always been done locally, collectively by free farmers based on their expertise. In this regard, we fully support the farmers and agricultural unions fighting against this measure.
Taxing farm seeds means allowing the commercialization and industrialization of living organisms in France today to the advantage of these multinationals, who have never paid anything for using the seeds selected by farmers. If this political choice were confirmed, the consequences would be destructive for agricultural biodiversity, food security, and the freedom within the farming profession.
The New Anti-Capitalist Party believes that the plundering of farmers’ work by seed companies must stop. The urgent need today is to guarantee the collective rights of farmers over their work against the appropriation attempted by the agro-industry.
In this time of ecological and economic crisis, on the backs of the environment, peoples, and farmers, it is always a handful who get richer! The New Anti-Capitalist Party stands with those who enable people to feed themselves, with all those who work with nature and not against it.
The successive economic crises show us the irresponsibility of industrialists as well as our politicians, whose capitalist economic model is demonstrating its limitations more and more clearly. The disruptions and debts increasingly push populations into precariousness and poverty.
The living world and particularly seeds can never and should never be commodities monopolized by a few companies. These companies are already starting to make them their plaything in the markets, causing famines in the poorest countries and price increases in the richest countries that prevent more than 8 million French people from eating adequately and properly.
On November 24 at 10 AM in front of the National Assembly, we remind deputies that the rights of farmers, the right to food sovereignty, and the preservation of biodiversity are more important than the profits of agro-industrialists!
Our lives are more important than their profits.
