The Oceanographic Museum of Monaco received the MONDO DR Award in the “Museum” category for Oceano Odyssey – Mission Pelagos, an immersive experience integrated into the Mediterranean 2050 exhibition. This award highlights an approach that combines innovation, scientific storytelling and raising awareness of ocean challenges.
The prize was presented on June 17 at the InfoComm trade show in Las Vegas. The project was among four international finalists selected following an evaluation conducted by a panel of experts, then a vote by industry professionals. This distinction underlines the Oceanographic Institute’s ability to develop systems that renew the public’s relationship with environmental challenges, continuing a mission that brings together arts, sciences and innovations.
Oceano Odyssey – Mission Pelagos is at the heart of the Mediterranean 2050 exhibition. The experience is based on an immersive projection of 310 m², a set of 27 4K laser video projectors and a spatialised sound environment. The journey invites visitors to board an exploration vessel for a 16-minute voyage through the Pelagos sanctuary, imagined in 2050. The Mediterranean appears there restored, with thirty emblematic species represented through photorealistic digital content. The system transforms the Whale Room into a narrative space where technology supports storytelling and knowledge transfer.
This approach combines scientific excellence, scenographic ambition and audiovisual innovation. It offers a positive vision of the marine future and encourages active awareness. « True to the pioneering spirit that has animated the Oceanographic Institute since its creation, we are committed to constantly inventing new forms of mediation to promote knowledge, love and protection of the Ocean, recalls the director general of the oceanographic museum Robert Calcagno. With Oceano Odyssey – Mission Pelagos, we offer an immersive experience that puts the most innovative technologies at the service of knowledge and wonder. This achievement reflects our desire to combine scientific excellence, technological innovation and emotion to bring the public ever closer to the major challenges of preserving the marine world, to spark curiosity and, above all, to give everyone the desire to act. »
The Oceanographic Institute thus continues its historical commitment to sustainable ocean management, supported by the Oceanographic Museum of Monaco and the House of the Ocean in Paris. Oceano Odyssey – Mission Pelagos becomes a new stage in this strategy, offering a sensory immersion that strengthens understanding of Mediterranean ecosystems and the actions necessary for their preservation.
