Oceanographic Museum of Monaco: A Promising Year Ahead

Latest News

The famous Oceanographic Museum of the principality will once again experience beautiful and grand moments throughout the year 2015. On the agenda: exhibitions, conferences, and many other must-see events.

“The major event in February remains the Chinese New Year with an exceptional evening on the 19th,” explains Robert Calcagno, Director General of the Oceanographic Institute, Albert I Foundation, Prince of Monaco.

It will also be the time to discover the “Plastic Fishes” exhibition. “Also among the exhibitions, the great photographer Gérard Rancinan will showcase his work starting April 23rd. An event titled ‘An Other Day on Earth,’” the Director General proudly announces.

In addition to the numerous exhibitions that will take place throughout the year, several conferences will be held in Monaco. All with the same goal: to preserve the oceans. A policy that, Robert Calcagno hopes, will bear fruit.

“On March 5th and 6th, a conference on renewable energies is to be held at the Museum. But that’s not all. Also in March, this time on the 12th, the Arctic will be the focal point of a conference organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation,” specifies the Director General of the Institute.

“Following our book on jellyfish, we will release a book on sea turtles at the end of the year. To discuss it, a conference ‘Sea Turtles in Metropolitan France and Overseas: Species, Threats, Conservation’ will take place on September 9th,” continues Robert Calcagno.

Events for Everyone

For the second consecutive year, the institute is organizing “Snapper for All.”
“This event allows children in difficulty to discover the beauty of the oceans,” explains the director. “On the agenda for the day, students come to discover the behind-the-scenes of the Museum. One of these classes will win a day at sea onboard the yacht MV Yersin for its first stopover in Monaco,” specifies Robert Calcagno, delighted with this initiative.

But that’s not all, another exceptional event at the Oceanographic Museum this year: the arrival of the 50 millionth visitor.
“We have calculated; he or she should arrive in the Spring. It’s when they walk through the door that the festivities’ program will be unveiled,” explains the eager Director.

The Oceanographic Museum still has wonderful surprises to unveil for 2015.
Given the program that has been prepared, it is likely to be – once again – a fantastic year.
