The Indian summer doesn’t only exist in North America. In Cannes too, it will be an opportunity to take part in the ODYSSEA race/walk from Square Carnot over 5, 10, or 1 km.
While the ODYSSEA races/walks offer a moment of relaxation, it is also a moment of sharing and conviviality among these Sunday runners or walkers, seasoned athletes, families on a stroll, enthusiastic colleagues who gather to support the cause, as well as a mother, a friend, a sister, a daughter, or a woman.
The goal? To try to exceed the 8,000 euros raised in 2011 for the benefit of local associations fighting against breast cancer: RESISTE 06, DEFI DE FEMMES, and the GYM APRES program. Since the first race in Cannes, ODYSSEA has helped raise 32,000 euros locally.
Thus, on September 23, 2,000 adults and 300 children are expected to run or walk.
From 8:00 AM, the Odyssea Village at Square Carnot will come alive: inflating the pink arch, setting up a welcoming village, setting up prevention stands, registrations, and bib collections.
For this crowd of motivated participants—women, children, and men mixed together—all dressed in pink with sneakers on their feet, the common goal will be to fund actions carried out by RESISTE 06, DEFI DE FEMMES, and the GYM APRES program to support breast cancer patients. Since the first race in Cannes, ODYSSEA has helped raise 32,000 euros locally in favor of the fight against breast cancer.

TO GO FURTHER
• 53,041 new cases of breast cancer and 11,358 deaths due to this disease occur annually in France (Projections for 2011 according to INVS).
• 21% of breast cancers are attributable to insufficient physical activity.
• Regular physical activity reduces the risk of dying from breast cancer by about 40%. The more regular the activity, even at moderate intensity, the more the risk decreases. These results are even more significant among postmenopausal women and populations with a family history.
