It was at the Nice Matin premises that the support cards for the 2024 Olympic Games were handed over to Denis Masseglia, President of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee.
Children, elite athletes, local political figures… all signed one of the thousands of postcards aimed at supporting the event. From Novak Djokovic to Eric Ciotti, and even little 9-year-old Manon… each signature is an additional motivation for the organization of these Olympiads.
Philippe Manassero, President of the Alpes-Maritimes departmental Olympic and sports committee, had the honor of presenting the famous cards to Denis Masseglia during this ceremony on August 28.
Alongside numerous elite athletes present for the occasion, the President of the CNOS expressed his sense of accomplishment. He particularly highlights the magnitude of such an event, represented by these 2024 Olympic Games: “We must not trivialize what is going to happen. It is something phenomenal that we have been waiting for 100 years! We do not have the right not to be mobilized, not to be united.” Indeed, the world’s largest sporting event deserves everyone’s involvement.
Especially since the stakes are multiple, as he points out: “The entire country will hope for exploits from its athletes. This is the number one expectation, which is normal. But we must also think about the societal aspects that have enormous importance for us.”
Proud of this achievement, Denis Masseglia is keen to thank the “sports movement which clearly mobilized to obtain these Games.” For him, what he calls the “first party of France” is the key element that was missing in previous bids, such as Annecy’s for 2018.
Several athletes were also at the ceremony to reaffirm their support for the Olympic and sports committee. Among them, Emilie Fer (gold medalist in canoe-kayak at the 2012 Olympic Games) or Stรฉphane Diagana (world champion in the 400m). But also volleyball players from RC Cannes, a fencer, a paransnowboard star, and even wheelchair basketball players. A remarkable diversity that once again demonstrates a general involvement from the sporting world.
