OGC Nice: a busy week for the Eaglets!

Latest News

Heatwave Alert. Following the arrival of the new coach Francesco Farioli, the hot topics are piling up. From Kasper Dolberg to Yannick Cahuzac, here’s all the information you shouldn’t have missed this week.

It’s official, Kasper Dolberg joins RSC Anderlecht (Belgium) for 5 million euros. Recruited in 2019 for a record amount of 20 million euros, the hope from Ajax Amsterdam did not meet the club’s expectations. After spending two seasons with the Gym, he was loaned to FC Sevilla in September 2022 before moving to TSC Hoffenheim immediately thereafter. At Anderlecht for the next four seasons, the Danish striker will try to restart his career in a completely different environment.

Another departure should be imminent, and it concerns the Algerian international Billal Brahimi. Little used since his arrival in Nice, the Paris-born player is hungry for action. With 3 goals and 2 assists after a mixed season for the eagles, Brahimi often showed promise when given the chance to play. Courted by several teams including Troyes last winter, Didier Digard’s Gym did not want to let him go. Now, a break seems near and according to Foot Mercato, RC Strasbourg, as well as Spanish, English, and Italian clubs, are interested in him.

Nice rejects a 6 million offer for Calvin Stengs

The Dutch prodigy has attracted attention. Loaned to Antwerp FC last season, Stengs won the Belgian championship. With a Champions League qualification for the upcoming season, the beautiful partnership between the attacking midfielder and the Belgian club seems set to continue. In light of this, Antwerp recently made a 6 million euros offer to OGC Nice, which was immediately rejected as it was deemed insufficient. More to follow on this case.

It’s no secret that the Gym is looking to strengthen its squad. Many options are being considered: Attila Szalai, the young Hungarian central defender from Fenerbahçe, is a dream target for Nice. With Dante’s decline and Jean-Clair Todibo being a target for transfer, reinforcing the defense is one of Farioli’s main priorities. More concretely, a first offer could soon be made to Jean-Ricner Bellegarde, the 25-year-old Alsatian midfielder from RC Strasbourg [Foot Mercato].

Yannick Cahuzac is not universally welcomed

Announced this week, the arrival of the former Bastia player in the Gym’s staff does not sit well with some Nice supporters. This stems from an altercation in 2014, where Yannick Cahuzac, then a player for SC Bastia, displayed hostility towards the rivalry between the Corsican club and OGC Nice. Trying to put the past behind and ready to meet Gym fans, it appears that reciprocity is not yet on the agenda. After his stint at Lens, Yannick Cahuzac continues to stir discussions.

A product of Nice, former Gym player Alexy Bosetti expressed his indignation on Twitter. He too is seemingly not very enthusiastic about welcoming Cahuzac to his beloved club…
