OGC Nice was defeated on Evian’s field in a complicated match for Claude Puel’s team (2-0). A logical result, marked by two mistakes from Pejcinovic that cost the Aiglons two goals.
Tonight, Claude Puel decided to field a younger team. Honorat, Albert, Amavi, Maupay, and even Hassen had the opportunity to shine in view of the next season. A gamble by the coach, poorly rewarded for his risk-taking, given the result.
Due to two serious mistakes by Pejcinovic, Nice had to bow out to a fighting Evian team. Pascal Dupraz’s men had warned their opponents. They would give their all to secure their spot in the league.
The stakes killed any desire to play from the very start of the match. Technical errors, timidity, and imprecision marked this encounter.
A Disorganized OGC Nice
On the red and black side, there were no excuses. Expectations were to see liberated men, but quite the opposite happened last night.
Berigaud crucified Hassen in the first half (19th), followed by his attacking partner Benezet in the second half (77th). And, the match was wrapped up.
Between these two goals, there were indeed some opportunities for Nice, but unfortunately poorly executed or not well negotiated enough to make a difference. The attitude of some players left much to be desired. Without motivation and completely demobilized, the Nice players handed over these 3 points on a silver platter. Evian, lacking in confidence, didn’t ask for so much. Technically and tactically weak, the Savoyards simply benefited from Nice’s apathy.
The end of the season is near for OGC Nice, but it seems the players have decided to start their vacation a little early.
However, before that, there will be one last match to play against Lyon, still competing for Europe. The objective is simple: Win for the supporters, who are still showing up in numbers in Annecy.
