About Special Olympics

Special Olympics France continues to act to promote sports enthusiasm, without elitism, so that, from local meetings to major international events, all participants are involved. In saying this, Special Olympics France, like UNAPEI (National Union of Associations of Parents and Friends of People with Intellectual Disabilities), our partner, does not have a tearful vision of their mission.

On the contrary, their action is recognized as dynamic and civic because both movements share essential beliefs regarding the place of people with intellectual disabilities in our society.

Special Olympics France delegates to regions, also organized as nonprofit associations under the 1901 law, or to regional correspondents the organization of local, departmental, regional events.

Special Olympics France oversees national and international initiatives. Local initiatives depend on referenced practices. All types of Olympic sports (except martial arts, archery, fencing) are represented and practiced.

Any person with an intellectual disability, regardless of their level of practice and from the age of eight, can participate in training and competitions.

Special Olympics France, alongside sports organizations, operates in various areas: holiday camps, health programs, training.
