OGC Nice is organizing a giant “clapping” event on Saturday, August 8th, to celebrate the start of the season. This exceptional event invites all the club’s supporters to come to Place Massena to kick off the festivities in the heart of the city.
The meeting is set for all Gym supporters a few hours before the championship opener against Monaco. At 2:00 PM at the Promenade du Paillon’s water mirror, the 2015/2016 season will officially begin. The supporters have chosen to celebrate the event with a giant “clapping.” Last year, before the first match at the new Nice stadium against Valenciennes, the supporters fired up the Allianz Riviera with the now traditional “clapping.”
What is clapping?
Having become an essential ritual, “Clapping” is believed to have originated from an ultra group movement in Greece or Turkey, with differing versions. This impressive custom involves clapping once and shouting the name of one’s club, then pausing before clapping again, repeatedly and more rapidly. When the whole stadium and more than 1000 people do it, it is very spectacular. It’s a way to celebrate the beginning of matches that has spread to many clubs in France in recent years.
