In a statement, OGC Nice announced the departure of its president, Fabrice Bocquet, by “mutual agreement.” Jean-Pierre Rivière and Maurice Cohen, two former iconic leaders of the club, succeed him with immediate effect.
It’s a shock during this holiday season for OGC Nice: Fabrice Bocquet is leaving his position as president. In a statement published on its social media this Friday afternoon, the club from the French Riviera announces the termination of this collaboration by “mutual agreement.” Having been with the club for three and a half years, the executive left his position as general manager last summer to succeed Jean-Pierre Rivière as president. The red and black club notably writes in these few lines, “Fabrice Bocquet played a key role in the restructuring and organization of the Club’s internal functioning, as well as in the financial management of the structure in terms of cost and revenue management related to transfers, contributing to laying sustainable foundations for the future and the sustainability of OGC Nice.”
The returns of Rivère and Cohen
Since his arrival at the head of the club, the dynamic of OGC Nice has greatly declined. In a context of crisis, the leader prefers to step down. As a reminder, the Aiglons are going through an unprecedented negative streak in their history, having just suffered nine consecutive losses. To succeed him, Ineos is betting on two faces very familiar to the red and black supporters: Jean-Pierre Rivière and Maurice Cohen, two former presidents of the club.
“It was obvious. We want to give back to this club what it has given us. With Maurice, we are coming voluntarily,” explains JPR. He will take up the position of president. Meanwhile, Maurice Cohen is appointed vice-president and will be notably in charge of the daily functioning of OGC Nice. “Everyone knows the club is in trouble at the moment,” says Rivière. This “mission” is expected to last only until the end of the season, with a primary objective: to retain the club in Ligue 1 as quickly as possible. “We’re coming as a special task force until the end of the season, to do as much as possible to recreate a Nice spirit, a good state of mind,” confides Cohen. The next months promise to be eventful in the coming weeks on the Côte d’Azur.
