OGC Nice interested in a Turkish international player?

Latest News

After two active transfer windows and a season that has been more than successful so far, the Gym is keen to continue building its project. The Nice management is reportedly already working towards the summer transfer market and already has a player in its sights.

An interest far from recent

Several different sources confirm it: Nice is interested in signing a young Turkish international for the next season.
The young Turkish international in question is Abdülkadir Ömür. At 22 years old, he has been on the Nice board’s radar for a long time, having already attracted the attention of their scouts almost two years ago! Indeed, in May 2020, it was France Football that reported Nice’s interest in the Trabzonspor midfielder.
But a few days ago, the local media in Trabzon, 61saat, announced that the Gym is still keen on bringing him in. According to our Turkish colleagues, an emissary from the Azurean club has been sent to monitor him. His mission is expected to continue until the end of the season.

The player’s profile

Having progressed through all the youth categories of the Turkish national team, Ömür is a small midfielder standing at 1.68 meters. Initially playing as an attacking midfielder/number 10, he now most often occupies the right wing thanks to his great acceleration and impressive dribbling ability. He also excels in passing, whether it be through crosses or in tight spaces.

In the 2021-2022 season, he is already having his best statistical year with 4 goals and 2 assists in 24 matches. In total, since his professional debut in 2016, he has scored 19 goals and provided 24 assists in 142 matches.
His statistics may not be dazzling, but they do not reflect the game qualities of a player who already has 10 caps for Turkey. Indeed, this season he appears as one of the best players in his league and is a major reason for his formative club’s top position.
Nevertheless, he will need to be more decisive if he were to join the French Riviera and Ligue 1, a much more demanding league than the Turkish Super League.
As for his price, he is estimated at 7.5 million euros by the expert site “Transfer Markt.” A reasonable price for OGC Nice, but they should be wary of competition since AS Monaco had already attempted to sign the Turkish player in the summer of 2020.
