OGC Nice: Kasper Schmeichel is the new priority of the transfer market

Latest News

OGC Nice thought they had found their new goalkeeper in Sommer, but the transfer did not go through. The team management is now interested in a Premier League goalkeeper. An agreement is believed to have already been reached.

In the search for a new number 1 between the posts to replace the departure of Walter Benitez, the team had set their sights on the captain of the Swiss national team, Yann Sommer. After several weeks of negotiations, the goalkeeper ultimately chose to stay with his club, Borussia Monchengladbach.

Although Marcin Bulka was quite reassuring in his performance during friendly matches, his coach Lucien Favre is determined to recruit an experienced goalkeeper to support the Polish player. After Sommerโ€™s refusal, lโ€™ร‰quipe revealed this weekend that Nice now dreams of a Premier League keeper: Kasper Schmeichel.

The son of the Manchester United legend, the Danish international with 84 caps has been one of the best in his position in the English league for over 5 years. Joining Leicester City in 2011, he came to the public’s attention in 2013 when he won the championship title with the Foxes.

At 35 years old, Schmeichel is slowly reaching the end of his journey with Leicester. After an average season, the southeastern English club wishes to part ways with certain players with high salaries. Even though the Dane is under contract until 2023, his club is allowing him to sign freely with another team, but only under two conditions: that the team does not play in England and that Leicester has found a replacement for him. On Tuesday, July 26, lโ€™ร‰quipe announced that the team has reached a contractual agreement with the keeper. Therefore, Leicester City needs to recruit his replacement for his transfer to the Cรดte d’Azur to take place.
