OGC Nice: Key Moments from Claude Puel’s First Press Conference

Latest News

Half an hour after the end of the first training session of the season, Nice’s coach, Claude Puel, had a meeting with the press. Most of the interview revolved around the transfer market, but he also discussed preparation and his expectations.

Hatem Ben Arfa

“He is not a new player since he was here in January. It’s good to see him again, I find him in shape, he has been serious and careful. I thank him for being patient and for keeping his word. This shows his determination and his desire to perform here.”

Nice’s transfer market

“In the coming weeks, there is movement to expect, between two to three arrivals. We should move on a full-back, an offensive player and we continue discussions with Carlos Eduardo (returned to Porto).”

Heat wave in France

“Of course, we take this into account. Temperatures are important, it is essential for players to sleep well and recover between sessions. It is difficult to prepare in these conditions, hard to add intensity to the work.”

A second training camp

“There is a willingness to redo a mini-camp in England like last season. We are adapting based on playing conditions, infrastructures, and less oppressive temperatures.”

Nice-Monaco, first day of Ligue 1

“It’s a tough start because they will play their preliminary round of the Champions League. Therefore, they will be physically and mentally ready. On our side, we need official matches to cement the group. It will be a leap into the unknown but can be motivating.”

Players leaving

“Joris Delle should leave us, he has one year left on his contract. The same goes for Jérémy Pied who might express himself elsewhere. For Valentin Eysseric, discussions are ongoing. For him as for others, both parties will listen. Some would like more playing time.”

2015-2016 squad

“I rely on Papy Mendy, he was the most consistent player last season, he is important for the squad. For Jordan Amavi, unless an offer comes that we can’t refuse, he is here. He only has one year of learning, he can be more consistent and agrees on this point.”

His hopes for the season

“We need to have a better home record, it’s important. We must replicate our performances away. I expect a lot from the players, I expect a higher level from them, this is part of the progression. The younger generation is coming up with quality. It’s up to them to confirm their maturity.”

The young players

“They must continue to be serious, they are learning to be professional. They are the future of the club, they will have a role to play.”
