6 PM, opening of the presidential stand at the Ray stadium, a dense crowd has gathered to watch their favorite team’s training session. After the usual and very classic warm-up, it was time for the first ball games and the distribution of vests, “blue for the starters and white for the future substitutes,” according to an inside tip from Roger Ricort, the club’s sporting director. Loรฏc Rรฉmy and Anthony Modeste exchanged short passes alternated with juggling and long balls. The two young forwards of OGC Nice seem to have a good rapport on the field, as the former Lens player noted: “We’re starting to find each other better, especially with Anthony Modeste, like in the games in Nรฎmes or Grenoble, we complement each other well, we find each other easily, and automatisms are forming gradually…”

The training takes place in a professional yet quite festive spirit. Teams are formed with blues on one side and whites on the other, for a technical session focusing on one-touch play within a very confined space. The best performers in this exercise, which tests reflexes and game vision, are Cyril Rool, nicknamed “Poulet,” and the inevitable Loรฏc Rรฉmy.

Impressed Supporters

6:45 PM. The training ends with a half-field scrimmage lasting nearly 45 minutes where the ex-Bastia player, Chaouki Ben Saada, showed great energy, scoring the only two goals for his team. Technical gestures, top-class saves, Yahia and Ospina, the new Colombian recruit, were impressive in goal offering a real show in front of a delighted audience of supporters.

Autograph sessions at the end of the training ensured that the whole evening felt like a real party, allowing supporters to meet the latest team additions and creating a unifying atmosphere before the start of the championship. “This kind of initiative is great, we can see all the players and especially the new ones, kids get their autographs, it’s very positive for the club, it gives a family and friendly image. It’s the best,” concluded Christophe, originally from Strasbourg but a lover of OGC Nice.
