Two days before the match against Stade Rennais at Allianz Riviera (Friday at 7 p.m.), coach Patrick Vieira, accompanied by Adrien Tameze, held the traditional press conference in front of journalists.
Two weeks after the Gym’s victory in Lyon (0-1), the Aiglons are back in action following the international break. “It was a period that allowed us to work a lot on the tactical side. I had certain messages to convey to the players, especially regarding positioning. Only four players were on international duty, so we were able to do a lot of work. We are ready for tomorrow (Friday),” explains Nice’s coach, Patrick Vieira.
Work for a team that is on the rise. After two home defeats (Reims and Dijon) and a draw (1-1) in Caen in the first three matches of the season, the Aiglons were struggling. The victory in Lyon puts the Nice team back in the top half of the table and allows the players to approach tomorrow’s match with a bit of confidence. “The victory in Lyon did us a world of good mentally. Admittedly, we were dominated, but we didn’t give up, we stuck together to bring back the 3 points. We’re expecting Rennes with a bit of confidence,” confirms midfielder Adrien Tameze.
However, beware of overconfidence. Rennes is not a small team, “it’s a great team that will play a leading role in the championship.” The Bretons remain on two victories (Angers and Bordeaux) and a draw in Marseille. Patrick Vieira is wary of Sabri Lamouchi’s players, “Their transfer window was very good. They have strengthened, especially in attack where there is great potential. We will need to be strong to win the match.”
A crucial match already for the azureans, who are coming off two home defeats, 0-1 against Reims in the first round and a 0-4 thrashing by Dijon.
