At the Ray stadium, the Italians from Udinese were defeated by OGC Nice (1-0) on Saturday evening. It was the former Saint-Étienne midfielder, David Hellebuyck, who gave his team an unrecallable advantage with a left-foot strike, following a pass from Eric Mouloungui (20th minute).
Dominant in the first half, Eric Roy’s men lacked efficiency, as exemplified by Anthony Mounier. The former Lyon player, very lively, often faltered due to a lack of realism or excessive selflessness (42nd minute).
The Italians, who finished fourth in Serie A during the 2010-2011 season, showed more aggression after the break. However, they were unable to make a difference. Their unfortunate tendency to dive during duels irritated the match referee, who did not hesitate to reach for the penalty cards.
Towards the end of the match, the Côte d’Azur defense was heroic, with young goalkeeper Yoan Cardinale (17 years old) coming on to replace David Ospina. These reassuring signs of solidity come a week before hosting OL on August 6th, for the first day of Ligue 1.
