A top priority target for OGC Nice despite the permanent signing of Marcin Bulka, Yann Sommer was supposed to be the first reinforcement of the summer. The club’s management has been working for nearly two weeks to bring the captain of the Swiss national team and Borussia Monchengladbach to the Côte d’Azur. While an agreement on the player’s salary had been reached, the transfer fee offered by the club did not satisfy the German club.
OGC Nice did not seem willing to match the requested amount, and even the contract length proposed did not meet Sommer’s expectations. The Swiss goalkeeper is seeking a 3-year contract, whereas the club is only offering 2 years.
In light of this disagreement, Borussia Monchengladbach, determined to keep their key player, has proposed a substantial extension offer to the Swiss player.
According to l’Équipe, this proposal has made the 33-year-old goalkeeper reconsider, making him less inclined to move to the French Riviera. The Nice board, confident since the beginning of negotiations, is now concerned that the Gladbach offer might make him forget about Nice.
