OGC Nice vs Clermont: The Gym sinks and can almost say goodbye to European qualification.

Latest News

Eliminated this week in the Europa Conference League against Basel, OGC Nice has practically said goodbye to Europe with this new defeat conceded on its home turf against Clermont.

After their devastating disappointment on Thursday at the Allianz Riviera, the Nice team was eager to get back to winning, a victory that has eluded them for six consecutive matches. Nevertheless, the Gym once again disappointed against Clermont Foot.

The Eagles quickly conceded the opening goal by Mohammed Cham (1-0, 37th minute), before Laborde equalized shortly after (1-1, 41st minute). Even though Nice mostly dominated the match, their defensive fragility and lack of finishing, which have been observed in recent weeks, inflicted yet another defeat upon them.

Only Terem Moffi, in depth, came to trouble Mory Diaw with an off-target shot (70th minute). Clermont’s Saif-Eddine Khaoui was able to capitalize on a noticeable apathy in the Azurean defense by catching Kasper Schmeichel off guard from the penalty spot, less than 10 minutes before the end of the match. The Auvergnats ultimately managed to secure a victory thanks to a goal by Khaoui (2-1, 83rd minute) and climb to ninth place.

OGC Nice is now 10th in the championship and will have to hope for a misstep from their rivals to maintain hopes for a European Cup spot.
