Following the chaotic end to the match between Nice and Marseille on the second day, the Professional Football League has delivered its verdict on the sanctions against both teams.
The Nice officials, the president, Jean-Pierre Rivère, and Julien Fournier, the director of football, appeared in person before the disciplinary commission to learn about the sanctions the club from the Riviera would face. Their Marseille counterparts did not travel and participated via videoconference.
One of the first sanctions imposed by the LFP is that the next match between Nice and Bordeaux, this Saturday, at 5 p.m., at the Allianz Riviera, will be played behind closed doors.
Regarding Olympique de Marseille, the only sanction imposed concerns one of Jorge Sampaoli’s staff members: the fitness coach, Pablo Fernandez. He has been suspended from any official duties, appearing in the locker room, and on the bench. The Argentine assistant was sanctioned for punching a Nice supporter, who was still hospitalized yesterday.
Despite these sanctions, the disciplinary commission announced that new hearings would be organized and the case would be under investigation until September 8. On that date, new sanctions will be imposed and the final result of the match will be given.
