Like every Sunday in January, we summarize the latest winter transfer news from OGC Nice for you. The last few days in red and black have been marked by a new twist in the Terem Moffi – Jérémie Boga case. The Gym’s transfer market might already be over.
OGC Nice had an appointment, this Thursday, before the LFP’s legal committee! Invoked by Terem Moffi and Jérémie Boga following incidents that have marked the Gym, after yet another underperformance by the Aiglons against Lorient (1-3) – this meeting was supposed to mediate between the two parties, the players on one side, and Nice on the other, represented by its vice-president, Maurice Cohen. At the end of the session, no reconciliation was reached. The two forwards, on sick leave for over a month, were hoping for a potential termination of their contract. A request deemed “excessive”, rejected by the Azurean club which, in turn, is open to a loan or transfer of its two players. The case goes on and the people of Nice are shining for the wrong reasons. The next step in the procedure is expected to go before the Labor Court. One thing is now certain, neither Boga nor Moffi are likely to wear the red and black colors again.
Amidst all this chaos, the winter transfer window for OGC Nice is not progressing. Fifteen days after the opening of the transfer market in France, the Aiglons have only officially added one new player so far: Elye Wahi. And the situation is not expected to improve in the coming days. According to our colleagues at Nice-Matin, no additional solutions will be brought to Claude Puel‘s squad, by the end of January. The only reinforcements might come from the red and black infirmary, where the return of long-term absentees is taking shape. Notably, we can think of Dante, or Mohamed Abdelmonem and Youssouf Ndayishimiye. The latter two suffered from cruciate ligament tears at the end of last season and are nearing the end of their recovery.
Nguene to Liège, Viti loaned again in Italy
On the departure side, OGC Nice continues to streamline its squad by parting ways with several members. In recent days, the Azurean club was close to concluding the Bernard Nguene deal with Standard Liège. The young Eagle, who appeared several times with the professionals this season, should continue his career in Belgium. The two teams have reportedly reached an agreement on a loan with a mandatory purchase option estimated at €2 million. Some final details need to be arranged before this transfer is made official, which could happen very soon.
At the same time, the Gym has also concluded a new temporary loan for Mattia Viti. After Sassuolo, Empoli, and Fiorentina – where he played the first six months of this season – the central defender is provisionally joining Sampdoria, in Serie B. Not in Claude Puel‘s plans, the Italian will remain in Genoa, at least until the end of the season. Let’s recall that OGC Nice had spent €13 million to recruit him in the summer of 2023. A real flop, on all levels!
