The end of the season puts an end to the various scenarios that have been discussed recently and have sparked debates among the supporters of the different options.

On the OGCN side, the decision-makers have shown consensus for the early closure of the championship.

General Director Julien Fournier had already anticipated this position in an interview with Le Monde.

President Jean-Pierre Rivère spoke last night following the Prime Minister’s statement to the National Assembly.

Jean-Pierre Rivère (president of OGC Nice): “I consider that the decision taken today (Tuesday) is a wise one, and it is a good thing. We have all been concerned about resuming under the somewhat unusual conditions we are in, with very little visibility. This decision will allow us to think quickly among ourselves, as it will raise some issues of various natures. It is important for us all to come together, work as effectively as possible, and ensure each club gets through this crisis as well as possible.”

For Football Director Julien Fournier, resuming the 2019-20 season in June would be “an extremely hasty decision and I see absolutely no advantage to it. Neither from an economic standpoint, nor from a health perspective, nor in terms of image. Absolutely no advantage,” he stated in an interview with Le Monde. “Often, clubs primarily highlight the economic aspect to say that the championship must be completed. However, I find this to be a somewhat superficial analysis.”

[…] Playing matches every three days, after such a long interruption, is also anxiety-inducing on a psychological level, then continuing with a new season [in May], or even the Euro for international players, I don’t find that to be serious.”
