Following these acts of violence, the prefect of Alpes-Maritimes, Bernard Gonzalez, announced in a statement Monday evening the closure “for the next four home games” of the Populaire Sud stand at the Nice stadium, Allianz Riviera.

The prefect also announced the “implementation as soon as possible of a net to prevent projectiles in front of the Populaire Sud stand,” the “study of a reinforced security system for the Visitors’ stand to prevent projectiles and assaults” and the “issuance of individual stadium bans against those involved in the violence as soon as they are identified by police services.”

The leaders of both teams are summoned on Wednesday, August 25, by the disciplinary committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) following these “serious incidents,” as the committee described them in an initial statement released Monday morning. The clubs of Nice and Marseille are facing potential sanctions.
