After completing a solo non-stop round-the-world trip from east to west, against the prevailing currents and winds, Stéphane Narvaez is preparing to set sail again on April 21 from the port of Antibes for a completely unprecedented adventure: to circle the earth four times solo, and non-stop.
Stéphane Narvaez, skipper of Oïkos: the 6th sailor to have completed the reverse solo round-the-world trip by sail and non-stop, the first with a production sailboat and without an engine!
To spice up the adventure, this expedition will take place in the Southern seas, aboard a production sailboat less than 50 feet long, all without an engine! The name of this incredible challenge, which will last 16 months, is: 4 Seasons in the Southern Seas.
His project represents both, in terms of distance and duration, the longest navigation around the globe ever undertaken, and the greatest number of successive circumnavigations around the planet.
Stéphane is no novice; he was the 6th sailor to complete a solo non-stop reverse round-the-world trip (against prevailing winds and currents) on a production sailboat in 2011.
From April 9 to 15 at the port of Nice, Stéphane Narvaez will kick off the “Expedition 4SMS – 4 Seasons in the Southern Seas”. Four seasons aboard his sailboat Oikos, a Sharp 47 built in 1985 without an engine, using only solar panels to produce electricity. This mission aims to carry out observations and measurements for the scientists of Ifremer and the Laboratory of Ocean Physics – LPO – organized in partnership with Teamdéfis / Ifremer and the LPO.
On April 10, the CCI port of Nice organizes “The Port’s School”. This day provides an opportunity for local students to meet maritime people and discover their work and passion. Oïkos will be available for visits.
