The politics of the Nice right is becoming increasingly toxic with disciplinary sanctions! After Benoรฎt Kandel, it is now Olivier Bettati who has fallen.
The National Directorate of the UMP has suspended the Nice elected official “provisionally” for “publicly and strongly declaring his opposition to the political actions of Christian Estrosi, the current mayor of Nice and UMP candidate for the upcoming municipal elections,” which has resulted in “creating some confusion and disunity among militants and voters.”
For the record, during the municipal council meeting on November 15, the elected official (who also supports Jean-Franรงois Copรฉ in Nice and its region) resigned from the municipal majority.
In fact, he is suspected of wanting to lead a list for the upcoming municipal election. Even though he has not yet announced his candidacy, it is very likely that he will head a list in the upcoming elections, a list which will, in fact, compete with that of the current mayor of Nice.
All that remains is to patiently wait for what happens next. Olivier Bettati, still young in political terms (44 years old), is nonetheless a seasoned veteran in electoral mandates. He is also a general councilor (it will be interesting to see if he will be excluded from the UMP group in this assembly… Benoรฎt Kandel should have been, yet he still sits there!) and enjoys a personal stronghold in the city, particularly in his district.
He is therefore not lacking in maneuvering capacity behind the scenes of local politics and does not seem destined to play the martyr… The move seems well calculated, and over time its logic will become clearer.
And what if all of this is part of a scenario crafted by others for different purposes?
