Nice Dreams of Olympism
Nice 2018. A major goal in the projects of the Deputy Mayor of Nice who wishes to host the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in the heart of the azure Alps and the city of Nice. While the majority of Nice’s elected officials support this candidacy, doubts remain among the communist and green elected representatives who have refrained from giving their trust to this file.
Because while the Nice candidacy was initially met with surprise at a national level, it now makes the cities of Grenoble and Annecy, French competitors, tremble. They are well aware of the numerous positive aspects of Nice’s file which offers undeniable advantages in terms of tourism, hospitality, economy, and finance. Even Jean-Claude Killy, the current supervisor of the upcoming Sochi Olympics and Executive Director of the IOC, has stated that the Nice candidacy was one of the most appealing. Sochi, by the way, is expected to be the destination of Christian Estrosi in a few days, as the Deputy Mayor of Nice is going there to take stock of the facilities put in place by the Russian city that will host the Winter Games in 2014.
Meanwhile, next Wednesday, the Nice candidacy will be presented at a press conference in Paris, thus launching the bidding process that will pit the azure capital against the cities of Grenoble and Annecy for a first national round that will decide who will be the French representative in the final international stretch.
โHistory and geography are on our side.โ Christian Estrosi recalls that the first cable car in Auron was inaugurated in 1937 and that the azure stations have hosted many national and local competitions.
CANCA Gives Way to the Urban Community Nice Cรดte d’Azur
Farewell to the Agglomeration Community, hello to the Urban Community. The decision was finally made yesterday during the Nice municipal council to transition to the new union of 24 azure communes. Its name: Urban Community Nice Cรดte d’Azur. The countdown is therefore launched for its implementation, which should be completed by the beginning of 2009.
Despite the reluctance of some opposition elected officials such as the socialist Paul Cuturello who โdoes not endorse the lack of consultationโ or the communist Bob Injey who accuses the Mayor of โnot wanting the debate to be public,โ the new azure urban project will indeed see the light of day in a few weeks. To substantiate his project Christian Estrosi will rely on figures, stating, โA grant of 300 million euros over 5 years is at stake if the Urban Community is in place by January 1, 2009. I will not let such an opportunity pass, and that is why I’m in a hurry!โ Ultimately, communist elected officials will vote against, the socialists and greens will abstain, while only Sophie Duez will follow her logic by adopting this resolution.
