The Olympic Nice Natation’s (ONN) wishes took place on Saturday evening at the club’s partner, Toyota. The car dealer transformed its garage into a reception hall for the event. On the menu: cake, a speech by the president, and awards for the 2009 champions. Swimming, water polo, diving, triathlon, and synchronized swimmingโall disciplines shone in 2009. Driven by the exploits of Camille Muffat and the women’s water polo team crowned champions of France, 2009 was “a remarkable season,” according to the ONN president. Jean Monnot even added, “it’s an absolutely extraordinary club.” He humorously remarked, “we focused our efforts on training; if we don’t have 5 swimmers from Nice at the 2012 Olympics, I will resign!”
2012 Olympics “reach the finals”
“5 swimmers at the London Olympics,” is also the priority of Francis Pellerin, the coach of, among others, Camille Muffat. “The goal for 2012 is not just to be seen participating, but to reach the finals. Camille and Clรฉment (Leffert) have paved the way, but there is no leader; I treat everyone equally to keep the group under pressure.” The next international meeting for the swimmers will be the Nice meet at the Jean Bouin swimming pool at the end of February.
