On the troubles of the Breil line

Latest News

At the initiative of Jean Icart, general councilor responsible for the Intermodality and High-Speed Rail (LGV) mission, important meetings were held in Breil on the Breil-Coni line.

A strong motivation and great interest have been observed among the different living areas, the valleys of Paillons and Roya, for the development of rail transport.

However, there is also dissatisfaction with the current situation. Unfortunately, once again, travelers feel neglected. The traffic does not meet expectations or promises, as revealed by the line committee held in the late afternoon in Drap.

Optimizing the line could address several issues: the suffocation of the Paillons valley focused exclusively on Nice (40,000 cars/day), the mobility needs of the Roya valley, and the connection to Turin, the heart of a prosperous region.

Cross-border railway lines must be treated comprehensively in connection with the coastal route, through management widely shared by the French, Italian authorities, and the Principality of Monaco.

The cooperation of French, Italian, and Monacan stakeholders is a promising path that deserves to be explored further, through the establishment of an ad hoc structure such as a European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC).

This is recommended by a study, pushing for a cross-border local network project for which consensus is desirable so that it can be achieved as quickly as possible.
