– In the presence of the artist, Raphaël Monticelli
As part of its mission to promote and disseminate culture, the Louis Nucéra Regional Municipal Library is honoring Raphaël Monticelli today, a writer and poet who actively contributes to the cultural influence of the City of Nice.
Born in Nice in 1948, Raphaël Monticelli is a writer and art critic. His literary work, constructed around the notion of “shorts,” has constantly been nourished by his relationships with artists. As an art critic, he defended the work of the 1960s avant-garde before developing “empathic criticism,” which led him to create joint works with many artists.
Built from the BMVR’s collection of artist books, this exhibition presents aspects of Raphaël Monticelli’s writing and some of his collaborations with artists. It is an opportunity to discover an approach where, according to Marcel Alocco, “writings and artistic gestures sometimes merge, even reversing roles.”
