For several weeks, the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council has been actively participating in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. The local government is strongly mobilizing in support of the most vulnerable people living within its territory.
Following the measures taken by the Government to limit the spread of the Coronavirus, many elderly people find themselves isolated and confined at home. Confinement and the restriction of movement have immediate consequences on their daily lives.
As the leader in social action and as part of the implementation of the “Mon voisin 06 a du cÅ“ur” mutual aid platform, the Alpes-Maritimes Departmental Council is launching a campaign to recruit volunteers.
This free initiative brings seniors and caregivers into contact with willing volunteers, allowing the latter to provide support and comfort.
Doing grocery shopping or fetching medications for isolated elderly individuals will provide essential help in addition to institutional solidarity and ensure continuity of connection during this challenging period.
A compassionate telephone listening service by volunteers registered on the platform and certified by the Department’s services will be available to seniors, aimed at combating loneliness and strengthening the social bond.
