Operation “Learn to Swim” – Summer 2011

Latest News

Until August 26, 2011, at the Centenaire Beach

Beyond active drowning prevention, “Learn to Swim” is a genuine societal issue.

This involves access to water culture and all existing aquatic activities available for children, swimming of course, but also water sports (sailing, diving, canoeing, water games, etc.).

Thus, teaching swimming has become a necessity for individual and collective safety.

In this context, the Ministry of Sports is launching the “Learn to Swim” operation this summer and has entrusted the French Swimming Federation with the implementation of this action.

The aim of this operation is to provide children with the essential skills that will allow them to ensure their own safety in aquatic environments and engage in activities safely.

The sports directorate of the City of Nice and the Côte d’Azur committee of the French Swimming Federation are joining this operation and offering a swimming learning program.

Ø Thus, since July 4 (until August 26), Nice Natation Azur offers children aged 7 to 12 a free two-week swimming learning cycle:

During the first week, the child attends a cycle of 2 daily sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday.

During the second week, the child attends a cycle of one daily session, every afternoon from Monday to Friday.

This learning cycle is validated by a swimming test aimed at obtaining the “Sauv’nage” diploma.

The activity takes place at the Centenaire Beach in Nice, arranged for this purpose.

The lessons are given by qualified sports educators (1 lifeguard from the French Swimming Federation, 6 lifeguards from the City of Nice).

16 to 24 children are welcomed per hour throughout the day, from 9 AM to 12 PM and from 2 PM to 5 PM.

A financial contribution of 15 € is required to cover the cost of license/insurance.

Registrations from Monday, July 4 to Friday, August 19, 2011, at the office specially set up on the Centenaire Beach.

Forms can be downloaded from the site www.natationazur-nice.fr.

To go further, two operations are conducted in parallel:

An animated program and free swimming lessons for people with disabilities:

  • Animation

For the “Animation” operation, children are registered for 5 sessions of 1 hour, with one session per day.

Two activities were offered: water polo and swimming with fins.

The cost is 20 €, with a participation diploma at the end.

  • Swimming for the Disabled

For the swimming operation for the disabled, participants are taken care of individually, thus registration is free for a 30-minute session.
