IMS–Entreprendre pour la Cité brings together companies from its network each year for a civic project to promote equal opportunities starting in middle school. On March 30 and 31, 2011, 27 companies will mobilize more than 160 employees to enable young people from disadvantaged neighborhoods to discover the world of business and its professions.
On the occasion of the first edition of this operation in PACA, the companies Koné and Cofely will open their doors to two nearby middle schools, Jules Romain and Frédéric Mistral, located in the Moulins district of Nice.
A great opportunity for these students to meet committed leaders and discover a variety of professions: elevator installer, site manager, heating technician, maintenance technician, construction manager, secretary, telephone operator, etc.
In total, 700 third-grade middle school students from 28 schools (in Île-de-France, Rhône-Alpes, PACA, and Midi-Pyrénées) will be distributed across 27 companies to meet employees and gain a better understanding of their professions.
During one day, students will benefit from career presentations, visit different departments, and interact with employees. It will also be an opportunity to perform practical tasks with employees, such as handling telephone reception, creating a payslip, writing a promotional poster in the form of a mini-competition, etc. At the middle schools, this meeting was prepared in advance with teachers, modeled on job interview training: researching the company, preparing a presentation of the school, developing each student’s resume, and preparing a questionnaire to interview employees about their job and company.
“Our goal, with ‘One Day, One Job,’ is to allow middle school students to project themselves into the future to consider the studies and careers that may interest them while having an insider’s view of the working world. These meetings are also an especially effective tool for promoting equal opportunities, in line with the pro-diversity commitments of these 27 companies,” emphasizes Bouna Kane, Education Manager of IMS–Entreprendre pour la Cité.
This day of career discovery is part of the 3-hour Professional Discovery option for third-grade students (DP3).
