Christian Estrosi presented the new actions that will be implemented for the cleanliness of the city of Nice. Accompanied by the Deputy Delegate for Cleanliness, Pierre-Paul Lรฉonelli, the Mayor explained the measures of the “Oxygen” operation, at Place Goiran in the company of neighborhood residents.
Since 2008, the Mayor of Nice has made the cleanliness of his city a primary mission. With a constant concern to improve public service and combat incivility, he aimed to go further with this new “Oxygen” operation, in effect since February 3, 2016.
The operation consists of tackling two plagues: canine excrement and cigarette butts. “Two areas where incivility continues to break sad records,” laments Christian Estrosi.
New initiatives against waste
From now on, two different bins will be made available to residents: a black one, equipped with ashtrays to educate smokers to dispose of their cigarette butts properly, and a green bin, equipped with plastic bags to combat canine excrement.
The Municipality intends to fight this through the reorganization and consolidation of cleaning, collection, and waste management services under a single authority. The creation of new services, such as the Rapid Cleanliness Action Force and the brigade to combat damage to the living environment, which are tasked with sanctioning those who do not respect cleanliness. For a first offense, the fine will amount to 35 euros.
For the Mayor of Nice, cleanliness is a duty for every citizen of Nice. “With 50,000 dogs in Nice, canine excrement is a real problem. For the good of the city and its residents, those who do not respect cleanliness must be punished. 80% of dog owners pick up canine excrement, but the other 20% must be penalized.”
