He has resigned from the position of President, but that doesn’t mean Christian Estrosi has lost interest in what’s happening in the PACA Region, and he makes sure it’s known.
First of all, he remained as Deputy President, and then the new President Renaud Muselier granted him full authority over the matters concerning the Alpes-Maritimes. Furthermore, he retains the delegations for culture and events.
In short, “I am no longer the president, but I command as much as before” – he made this clear during a press briefing following a meeting of the Standing Committee of the regional assembly, the body that makes decisions on funding for various projects within the general budget framework.
Here, Christian Estrosi is not willing to make concessions: after 18 years of scarcity under the presidency of Michel Vauzelle, the Alpes-Maritimes in general, and Nice in particular, want their share: the mayor of Nice calls it “balanced and fair management” but… there is indeed a backlog to catch up on and as explained in financial matters… interests are part of the capital!
During the 18 months of his presidency, the budget structure by axes, projects, and chapters, as well as the criteria for project admission and financing, were established, and now it is simply a matter of managing processing and review.
Said and done: 6 million euros were allocated during yesterday’s session: 1.1 million for territorial planning, 0.9 million for culture, 2.6 million for interventions in high schools, and 0.7 million for sports are the most significant sub-totals.
The Deputy President also confirmed interventions in security equipment at stations, with Nice-Thiers being part of the first batch to be equipped with barriers and turnstiles, followed by Nice-Riquier, Saint-Augustin, and the other main stations in the department (as well as Monaco).
Finally, the regional community will participate in funding the next July 14th ceremonies with an envelope of 400,000 euros.
