The Hemicycle of the Region’s hotel was the venue for the first session of the Regional Consultative Conference, the UFO christened by Christian Estrosi, never short of slogans or self-congratulations, as the “new agora of the 21st century.”
Then, coming back down to earth, the president of the PACA Region outlined it more clearly: “This Regional Consultative Conference, which I pledged to create during the elections, we are setting up today. For my part, I believe that on certain issues, we can, and we must, work in the service of the general interest.”
While rejecting any desire to establish a furtive form of co-management, Christian Estrosi calls for “a new mode of democratic expression, and for that, we must be bold.” “That’s why I also wanted to involve civil society,” he added.
He expressed the wish that “this Conference will clearly be a place where freedom of expression thrives. But also a place for debates and exchanges, where criticism, even if not essential, will be possible and proposals welcome,” committing that “if the opinions and proposals from this Consultative Assembly go in the right direction and serve the general interest, I will have no difficulty in submitting them to the Plenary Assembly of our Region for concrete implementation.”
First areas of application: the Regional Economic Development, Investment, and Internationalization Plan under development and the transport policy, particularly in the context of the renegotiation of the amendment with the SNCF, which will take place next week.
