During an electoral campaign, votes become the object of desire. And what wouldn’t one do to get more of them.
The closer the election day gets, the higher the tension rises. People end up being categorized: will this one vote for me?
This is called the ballot box syndrome!
A few days ago, Christian Estrosi publicly responded to the president of the Collectif Provenço, who requested assurances from the “Nissart” candidate regarding support for Provençal culture and tradition.
In his response, the LR candidate assured the questioner about the recognition of the language and territory of Provence, “I will ask all the deputies and senators of our Region to support your proposal.”
The fact remains that in the following days, the Senate rejected the constitutional bill that aimed to allow the ratification of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages.
The members of Christian Estrosi’s party, which holds the majority (with its allies) in this Assembly, naturally voted in favor of this rejection.
Once again, it was confirmed that promises only bind those who believe in them.
This prompted the socialist candidate Christophe Castaner to exclaim: “Enough of this masquerade!” he declared.
He continued with very harsh remarks: “While on Saturday in Arles, Marion Maréchal Le Pen and Christian Estrosi were parading, claiming to defend the language and culture of our Region: the parties they represent refused this legitimate recognition. The credibility of political speech opposes this double talk.”
And he stigmatized: “This opportunism related to the regional elections campaign provides, once more, a means of expression which, for my far-right and extreme right competitors, is nothing but media and electoral agitation.”
