On Friday, August 29, at the gymnasium of Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée, a free performance of Carl ORFF’s “Carmina Burana” will be presented for about 500 people. It will feature a version with two pianos and four hands, six percussionists, and the participation of Lebanese, Palestinian, and Israeli choirs, supplemented by the local community choir and members of the Philharmonic Choir of Nice.
Because she has always been convinced that “the more people know each other, the less they engage in war,” Sibylle von Plessen has devoted herself tirelessly for several years to leading two distinct associations with objectives rooted in the same philosophy.
“Placet France” supports victims related to conflicts that devastate the planet. Thanks to host families, the generosity of the Saint-George Clinic in Nice, and the team of Dr. Michel Buffet, three children and adolescents have benefited from the miracles of plastic and reconstructive surgery since 2007.
In addition, Sibylle von Plessen, through the “Trialogue” association, contributes to the necessary reconciliation of warring peoples by organizing an annual cultural week held in Saint-Etienne-de-Tinée.
This year, with the support of the General Council, under the musical direction of Jean-Pierre Grégoire, Lebanese (the Saint-Maroun Choir), Palestinian (Olive Branches Choir), and Israeli choirs (the Kibbutz Artsi Choir) will join the local community choir for this unique concert scheduled for Friday the 29th.
Admission will be free. This event will be the highlight of five days of gatherings, workshops, and rehearsals. It will be a week of welcome and sharing for nearly 70 artists who, following the tradition of Stéphanoise tolerance, will be hosted and accommodated by local residents.
